I started my new job 12 days ago and I really love it! It was a bit of a challenge the first few days - getting my brain cells to work again after so long. I think I picked it up pretty quick - remembering the terminology & acronyms associated with Clinical Research.
On Thursday I woke up super early and drove to one of the Engineers house - he drove the two of us down to San Diego so that we could cross the border into Tijuana, Mexico.
I didn't know what to expect honestly - I left my jewelry at home and packed all my neccessities in my backpack. The border crossing to go south is just a turn-style door - very similar to the ones you walk through to leave Disneyland! You don't talk to anyone - you just walk through and voila you're there!
We took our 2minute cab ride to the Vision Institute and met up with Paul, my superviser. We had 3 procedures to sit in on.
It was SO neat to be a part of the action and see everything happen right in front of me.
After the procedures; we changed out of our scrubs and then Paul gave me a tour of the Clinic. VERY INTERESTING.
We had lunch as a group then John and I made our way for the border. The line was SO long - we were on foot and it took us 2hrs to wind through downtown to get to the US Immigration office.
I can't believe the line up - so I asked Paul the next day if we can get Sentri Passes - it's the equivelant of the NEXXUS pass - a fast pass for the crossing. We're each filling out docs to get this done - will make the trips so much easier!
I am not sure when I'll be going back - probably next week - but there is always at least 3 of us that go when they do procedures.
I have been having training sessions nearly every day - data entry and company training. I am learning so much. I am working on one certification right now - then may go to San Francisco at the end of September to get another certification done...we'll see how it all works out.
On another note - I really do miss the shelter. I miss the staff and of course the animals. I am going out to Bri's house on Saturday with the group - really looking forward to it.

Oh my goodness, I'm so happy to hear that the job is going well! I didn't know about this blogspot until I checked my own blog stats today. It sounds like it is all going really really well! I'm so happy they had you see a real procedure early in the process. That is a sign of a very respectful working culture where they let you in on everything going on! Yay!
